AKON IN CAMEROON |
Just recently a cameroonain company spent more than 400 000 000FCFA'( FOUR hundred million francs cfa) including hotels bills, flight extras and milcelanouse to bring an artist(AKON) to cameroon for a single concert. Some people called it a scandal some said it was a good idea and is just one out of plenty other artist that collect hundreds of millions to come to cameroon be it P SQARE o other artist from america like EMINEM RICK ROSS or ivorains and congolese like FALLY IPUPA or ARAFAT.what ever opinion you hold lets be objective in our thinking we have more than a million artist here in cameroon who can do a concert for less than a hundred thausand and with that amount(the one spent on akon) you could unite hundreds of artist from around cameroon with thier diferent publics and pull a craowd trice as bigg as any foriegn artist wuold bring to a hall and not only will you be creating a sort of music festival you would be promoting the local industry and making it to grow you would also be letting diiferent artist from around the country to meet and let those who came for a paticular artist to meet and know other artist and the artist themselfs share ideas.but NO! this money was given to a foriegner and his crew who cares absulutely nothing about the industry where he his going. Some poeple think this is why we are not amongs the best in africa because sponsors wont bare this sort of risk for a local artist which can generate as much attention as the foriegn artist.Dont get me wrong i am not saying sponsors should not invite international artists to cameroon i am just saying if they support the local industry more it would be and attration and they wont have to spend such money to bring an individual to do one concert.an example can be taken from the signing of nigerian artists by american based big labels ....they dint have to pay a franc to draw attentoin they supported thier atist and they brought thier attention to them! Its not too late to change!
