Her style is a fusion of Jazz, Soul, RnB and Hip Hop which, when blended together, reveals the fresh, original and smooth sounds found on her debut album “WHUMAN” (pronounced: woman).
After enrolling on Media & Film course in 2000, she later reverted to her first love, Music! Over the course of the next 5 years, she developed and honed her skills by learning to play the piano and perfecting her song-writing in several live bands. Together they performed at some of London's finest underground open-mic / live music events at Jazz Café, ILuvLive, Vibe Bar, Mau-Mau, Proud Camden, Troy Bar, Blessed Souls and Camer Couture fashion show.
Her sultry voice, natural performing style and infectious energy caught the eye of a number of promoters, which culminated in her being chosen as supporting act for the US Rn'B group NEXT (famed for classics such as Butter Love, Too Close, Wifey) and Ntjam Rosie (Europe Jazz/Soul Sensation) this year.
Roll forward to 2011 and Debra Debs is now ready to let the world share her passion. Her debut EP album, “WHUMAN”, was released in November 2011 and she will be releasing the full album in 2012.
Just like the album, the EP is full of energy, an intoxicating rhythm, love vs pain rhetoric and meaningful/thought-provoking lyrical content: from "Blending Colours" to "Love Galore", "Caught Up" and "Africa (Higher Higher)" it is clear to see (and hear) that Debra Debs is rising star. DJ Edu (BBC 1XTRA) describes her as “a tremendous talent who displays great technical, lyrical and vocal abilities”.
Music lovers we invite you to tune your ears to the sounds of Miss Debra Debs!
